Install: Z3660 SD card
A3000, A4000 or A4000T, Z3660 with a real 68060 or 68LC060. The card holds the firmware, the presets and four disk images: a ready-installed desktop and two installers.
You need
- the K1 card files;
- a microSD card, 2 GB or larger;
- the Kickstart 3.x ROM image for your machine (A3000 or A4000), 524288 bytes, from your own ROMs.
1. Make the card
MBR (not GPT), two partitions. The firmware finds them by number.
| # | Type | Start, size | Format | Contents |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 0x0C | sector 2048, 1 GiB | FAT32, 4 KiB clusters | fat/ |
| 2 | 0x07 | the rest | exFAT, 128 KiB clusters | exfat/ |
On Linux, with the card at /dev/sdX:
Unpack amigaux-1.0-k1-card.zip. Copy its fat/ to partition 1 and exfat/ to partition 2,
then check them against MANIFEST.sha256.
2. Kickstart
Copy your ROM image to kicks/kickstart.rom on the exFAT partition. Exactly that name;
nothing else to edit.
Known-good image (zlib CRC32): A4kOS323.rom B6A4698E (A4000).
A3000: Kickstart 3.2.1 (47.102) boots in emulation.
3. Two or more Z3660s on one network
Every card has mac_address 02:00:00:00:00:01 in z3660cfg.txt. Give each card
its own: 02:00:00:00:00:02, …:03. Digits only; the firmware misreads A–F.
4. Pick a preset
| Preset | Boots | Use |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | k1-desktop-rtg at unit 0 | ready-made desktop (default) |
| 1 | k1-install → k1-blank200 | interactive install |
| 2 | k1-unatt → k1-blank200 | unattended install |
| 3 | k1-blank200 at unit 0 | the system you installed |
| 4–7 | the CD route | Install from CD |
To choose: on a PC, edit presets/preset.txt. Its one line is preset 0;
make it preset 1, 2 or 3.
5a. Ready-made desktop
Preset 0. It goes straight to the first-boot dialog.
5b. Interactive install
Preset 1. The installer runs from unit 6 and installs onto the blank disk at unit 0.
Wait for each question to appear before you type; keys pressed while the system is still starting are lost.
| Prompt | Answer |
|---|---|
Which keyboard are you using? [12] | RETURN (American), or your map's number |
Do you want to install or repair? [install] | RETURN |
What is the SCSI id of the disk you want to install? | 0 — asked only when more than one disk can take it |
How many megabytes for the root file system? [158] | RETURN |
How many megabytes for the swap partition? [30] | RETURN |
Choose: [1] | RETURN (Standard Amiga UNIX installation); 2 everything on the disc |
Verbose install? [n] | RETURN |
Do you wish to change any of these? [n] | RETURN — check Install to: SCSI id 0 first |
Press RETURN to halt the system. | RETURN |
SCSI id 6 … source -- not installable in the disk table is the installer itself.
Wait 10 seconds after the halt message and switch off. Set preset 3, or leave preset 1:
the installed disk boots before the installer.
5c. Unattended install
Preset 2. No questions; it refuses a disk that is not blank. It halts by itself. Wait 10 seconds,
switch off. Set preset 3, or leave preset 2: the installed disk boots before the installer.
6. First boot
The installed system asks its questions once: first-boot dialog.
Then log in as root with the password you gave it. The first boot takes a few minutes longer.
If it goes wrong
- Black screen or no disk activity: switch off for 20 seconds, then on.
- AmigaOS starts instead: hold both mouse buttons at power-on, Boot Options,
UNIX_Boot. - Black on every power-on: check
kicks/kickstart.rom. - Back to stock firmware: delete
Z3660.binon the FAT partition. Full stock: copyFAILSAFE.binoverBOOT.BIN, then deleteZ3660.bin.
Switching off: as root, shutdown -i0 -g0 -y, then wait 10 seconds after
the halt message. Never reboot or shutdown -i6 on a real 68060: the Z3660 cannot
reset the CPU.
