Known issues
- No software reboot on a real 68060.
rebootandshutdown -i6leave the screen black: the Z3660 cannot reset the CPU. Useshutdown -i0 -g0 -y, wait 10 seconds after the halt message, switch off and on. - Switch off only after a clean shutdown. The Z3660 keeps your disks as files on its SD card, and the card may still be writing for a few seconds after the halt.
- Black screen or no disk activity at power-on: switch off for 20 seconds, then on. This also covers the restart after a file-system check following an unclean shutdown.
- The Z3660 restarts itself during Kickstart's disk scan about one boot in six; the boot then continues normally.
- If the Z3660 console shows a core0 DataAbort followed by a firmware restart without a power cycle, switch off and on before installing: seen once on the acceptance bench, where the install that followed corrupted one block of the install disk.
- Upgrade APKG with
apkg upgrade apkg, not/usr/sbin/pkgadd: the system's ownpkgadd -ncannot install a package with install scripts ("suspended (interaction required)"). - A 68060 running the July 2026 package engine (APKGENG 1.12.0) cannot upgrade it by itself: see the recovery.
- No crash dump. The console message is the only record of a panic.
- CD install: interactive only. Only the CD filesystem may touch the CD unit.
- A K1 install source disk changes when it is used. The installer boots it read-write, so after an install its sha256 no longer matches the card's list. That is expected, not damage.
- Disks: stay below 1024 MB; the largest tested root is a 1000 MB disk (959 MiB root).
- Every K1 card has the same MAC address (
02:00:00:00:00:01); change it per machine. - Classic kit: tested in emulation only; does not run in the Z3660's 68030 mode (1.1).
- Amiberry before 8.3.0: do not use. It boots, then silently corrupts data under paging.
- 68060:
cas2and a misalignedcasstill stop a program; the other integer instructions the 68060 lacks are emulated. - Installed from media older than 2026-10-03? The first-boot files are world-writable, a local
root hole. As root, once:
chmod 700 /var/adm/firstboot chmod 600 /var/adm/firstboot/firstboot.conf /var/adm/firstboot/DIALOG-DONE rm -f /var/adm/firstboot/root.shadow /var/adm/firstboot/PENDING chmod 755 /opt/amix /opt/amix/bin; chmod 444 /etc/inet/hosts
Recovery: APKGENG 1.12.0 on a 68060
As root:
/usr/apkg/bin/apkg update
cd /tmp
if [ -d /var/sadm/pkg/APKGENG ]; then mv /var/sadm/pkg/APKGENG /var/sadm/pkg/.save.APKGENG; fi
P=`/usr/apkg/bin/apkg download apkgeng | tail -1`
sed 's/^instance=.*/instance=overwrite/' /var/apkg/admin > /tmp/admin
cp /var/sadm/install/contents /var/sadm/install/contents.bak
/usr/apkg/bin/contents-fsck -r -s /var/sadm/install/contents
cp /var/sadm/install/contents.fixed /var/sadm/install/contents
/usr/sbin/pkgadd -n -a /tmp/admin -d $P APKGENG
rm -rf /var/sadm/pkg/.save.APKGENG
/usr/apkg/bin/apkg info apkgeng
The last line must say Installed: yes, version 1.12.3. If pkgadd fails:
mv /var/sadm/pkg/.save.APKGENG /var/sadm/pkg/APKGENG.
Classic system from pre-release media: swap
Before upgrading, add the rest of the swap partition, as root:
/usr/sbin/swap -a /dev/dsk/c6d0s2 20480 <blocks>, with <blocks> the
partition's length in 512-byte blocks minus 20480 (16384 for the default 18 MB). The 1.0 media do this at
every boot.
